Abstract: New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase 1 (NDM-1) degrades broad-spectrum antibiotic carbapenem. Dissemination of NDM-1 carrying bacteria is a serious global health problem. In Hong Kong, NDM-1 was firstly isolated from plasmid pNDM-HK. Previously, this plasmid was sequenced to understand its genetic elements and evolutionary pathways. Given that small non-coding RNAs (sRNAs) play an essential role in regulating physiological response of bacteria, we tried to explore sRNAs encoded from this multidrug resistance plasmid. Herein, we extracted sRNAs from bacteria harbouring pNDM-HK and performed RNA-Seq to identify plasmid encoded sRNAs.
