Abstract: Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis (IPN) is a highly contagious birnavirus disease of salmonid fish, which often results in high levels of morbidity and significant mortalities in aquaculture. In some stocks, Atlantic salmon carry different alleles (resistant or susceptible) for a major locus affecting host resistance to IPN. We report here on an RNAseq-based comparison of gene expression profiles of salmon fry with alternate genotypes at this IPN resistance QTL. The offspring of three QTL-segregating commercial breeding families were challenged with the infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) for 24 hours before sampling. RNA from six IPNV-challenged fry carrying the "RR" genotype and six IPN-challenged fry carrying the "SS" genotype were sequenced from each family.
